Oklahoma City.

Well we rode from Memphis to Oklahoma City. Total of about 500 miles today. All and all a great day. Didn't see any rain till we hit OKC and then just a spritzing.

We stopped at Toad Suck HD for a rest break.

Then on to Okemah for fuel and lunch.

Once we arrived in OKC a group of us rode to the National Memorial. I really can't put into words exactly how I felt as I walked the grounds. I was moved to tears as I thought about the lives lost and how this event changed our nation and the way we prepare for terrorist events.

There is a reflecting pool with walls at each end. The wall at on end has 901 embossed into it and the wall at the other end has 903. These times represent the minute before the 902 blast and the minute after. How in that one moment our nation change. We had to start looking at domestic terrorism and preparing  for future events. The pain of that fateful day still lingers here.
I'll let the pictures speak for a moment.

Tomorrow we start down Route 66. It's gonna be a fun ride with a wet start.

Atlanta to Memphis

We rode a total of 420 miles today. Rode across northern Alabama, and Mississippi. We sat at a service station for about 2 hours waiting out a storm. Managed to stay dry for the most part And avoided putting on the rain gear. The weather was pleasantly cool.

Mike and I left his house at 6 am and met up with another bike with a very nice couple ridding two up. So my riding companions today were Mike, Darrell, and Janine. Janine is snapping pictures from the bike, so I'm gonna try to get some of her shots.

Once we arrived in Memphis we met up with my old friend Jim.  He and I have ridden together a couple of times before.  Then is was off to Rendezvous for some BBQ.

Following dinner we ventured down to Beale St. Tonight was bike night and there were all types of motorcycles lining the street.  Only one shark in the bunch.

Bike night on Beale St.

Summer trip 2013.

Tomorrow I leave for Shark Week 3. This is. A gathering of Harley Roadglide owners. This years mini rally will be held in St. George, Utah from July 30 thru August 1st. There will be group rides each day, group meals, and other activities. The planned attendance is now about 120 bikes and 150 people.
I am meeting 30 other bikes in Oklahoma City in  few days and we will be getting our kicks on Route 66. This is called a Gypsy Tour. Chris a forum member plans these each year for travel to SW.  This year we will follow as much of the old alignment of Route 66 as possible, spending our nights in historic hotels along the way.  We start in Oklahoma City, then head to Tucumcari, NM, then Gallup, NM, then Flagstaff, AZ, and Finally arrive in St. George, Utah for Shark Week.
Following Shark Week, I will be traveling with Joe another forum member. We are going to head back east by way of Teton and Yellowstone National parks. Riding some of the best motorcycle roads in the nation. We will spend two nights in the Sturgis area and enjoy the scenery of the Blackhills, and the spectacle of the largest motorcycle rally in the USA.
I will try to keep this blog up to date with pictures and stories from the road.
